As a high-school student working at a stained-glass studio and taking art classes, Rob knew he wanted a career in art. His passion for “creating stuff” led him to study design at BYU, where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1990. He later returned to BYU to earn a master’s degree in instructional psychology and technology.
Before he started working at the Center for Instructional Design (now CTL) in June 1999, Rob was a graphic designer and animator for the Instructional Technology Center (ITC) at BYU. Rob is currently a part-time faculty member of the School of Technology teaching courses for the animation major.
Rob has distinguished himself by developing innovative media that have earned several awards. In 1996, Rob was named one of the top 100 multimedia producers by AV Video Multimedia Producer Magazine for his work on an animation illustrating how the embryonic heart develops in humans. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious “Platinum Best of Show” award from the Aurora Awards for his animation, “Signal Strength.”
Rob and his wife Miki are the parents of five children: Melissa, Mason, Trent, Grant and Caden. As a family, they enjoy hiking slot canyons in southern Utah. Rob also enjoys whitewater kayaking and working on animation projects. Rob is currently teaching himself to play the bass guitar. Rob served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cali, Columbia from 1985 to 1987.
