Walk-in Center Services

Do you have slides for one of your courses that you need scanned? Do you need a short clip taken from a movie to help you present a concept to your class? Would an animation help your students understand a difficult theory? If so, let the Walk-in Center at the Center for Teaching & Learning work their magic for you!

The Walk-in Center collaborates with faculty to produce multimedia projects that help improve teaching and learning. They specialize in small, quick-turn-around types of projects that generally fall under the following categories:

Video filming, editing, and digitization

  • Filming student presentations (e.g. filming students’ public speaking skills or negotiation skills for evaluation and review).
  • Capturing short clips from movies for easy and effective instructional use.
  • Digitizing short clips from VHS tapes or audiocassettes and converting them to various file formats.

Design Animations

  • Designing and creating animations of concepts that are difficult to understand (e.g. how the speed of light works).
  • Creating interactive maps.
  • Developing customized demonstrations and simulations of instructional concepts (e.g. how chemicals interact, how an earthquake affects a bridge).

Scanning

  • Scanning pictures from magazines or books.
  • Scanning photos.
  • Scanning 35 mm slides.
  • Saving scanned images to a CD or DVD.

Classroom PowerPoint Presentations

  • Creating customized PowerPoint templates to visually improve lecture presentations.
  • Improving the design of an existing lecture presentation to look more professional.
  • Providing consultation on best practices for PowerPoint.
  • Converting movie clips to formats that work in PowerPoint.

iClicker Training and Support

  • Get iClicker software and hardware.
  • Receive training for iClicker software.
  • Learn about the best pedagogical ways to use in-class response systems.
  • Get support for your iClicker questions (call 422-8008).
