Learning Assessment
The goal of an informative learning assessment is to give students an opportunity to demonstrate that they have achieved the learning outcomes and to provide teachers an opportunity to evaluate student performance and provide corrective feedback. Informative assessment may also include interative opportunities to build on what students have learned from the feedback (e.g.. test/retest, application, exams, term papers, and group exam formats). An effective strategy for the assessment of student learning has several characteristics:
- Achievement. The assessments measure the extent to which the students have achieved the course learning goals.
- Variety. The assessment of learning should include more than one type of assessment (e.g., projects, papers, performances, exams).
- Feedback. The assessments provide the learners with frequent, informative, and meaningful feedback.
