Adobe Connect is a feature-rich, web conferencing application for synchronous delivery of course materials. Presentations and multimedia can be shared with others at remote locations directly from the desktop. Connect also enables the presenter and participants to interact with each other through chat, quizzes, surveys, and an interactive whiteboard. Connect sessions can also be recorded and viewed asynchronously.

Adobe Presenter allows instructors to turn PowerPoint presentations into web-based, self-paced learning modules. Using Presenter, instructors can add voice narration and interactivity to their presentations and make them available for asynchronous viewing. 

Presenter is only available for PCs running Windows XP or Windows Vista.

MediaNotes is a video/audio tagging application that allows users to easily analyze and annotate video/audio performances. MediaNotes is simple, easy to use, and keeps videos organized.

It was originally developed by the Center for Teaching and Learning and BYU faculty with the intent to provide better and more efficient feedback to students in interviewing, counseling, negotiation, and artistic performance.

Access & Support

MediaNotes is available to employees, faculty, and students via the Office of Information Technology (OIT) software distribution website (http://software.byu.edu). Support is currently not available through the university.

Turnitin is an efficient way to identify and thwart plagiarism in your course. Setting up a Turnitin assignment is easy and returns specific information on any passages of a paper that could be plagiarized. The software provides the most comprehensive database of student papers, internet content, books, journals and magazines against which to check student papers.

Access & Support

Turnitin is available to all BYU faculty. To use Turnitin, log on to BYU Learning Suite at http://learningsuite.byu.edu. Select the course with which you want to use Turnitin, go to the Assignments area of the course, create a graded assignment, and select "Originality Check" to use Turnitin for that assignment. You may also access Turnitin directly through http://turnitin.com/ (contact OIT at 801-422-4000 for a password). Faculty may also contact BYU OIT at 801-422-4000 for help with this tool.

Collaborative Writing: Google Docs is a free word processor that allows you to share documents, spreadsheets, or presentations with other coauthors. You can also do the same with Adobe Buzzword. Zoho allows you to collaborate online with shared spreadsheets, wikis, and other project management tools.

Free Educational Videos: Teachertube is an educational alternative to Youtube and provides an online community for sharing instructional videos.

Social Bookmarking: Scholar is a Blackboard sponsored social linking site that allows you to see what other scholars have bookmarked.

Cognitive Mapping : Online brain storming and mapping can be done using MindMeister.

Video Screen Capture: Camstudio is a screen capture product that allows you to create both .avi and .swf (flash) movies of everything that can be seen and heard on your computer.

Audio Editing: Audacity is an open source audio editing program. If you want to convert your files to .mp3, go to Zamzar to do the conversion or install the .mp3 plugin when prompted.

HTML Editing: NVU is a free html editing program made by the creators of Netscape and Mozilla Firefox.

Online File Conversion: Go to PDFonline or Neevia to convert files to PDFs. Go to Zamzar to convert almost any other file types.

Research and Citation Management: Zotero is a free tool that helps you to organize and cite references right in your internet browser.
